The other night our power went out. Since we'd recently been changing some things around in the house, we couldn't locate the 'emergency flashlight'. Thankfully we found a back-up, but it made us realize that in the event of an emergency, we are not prepared. We do have a few supplies in place, including a box of Cliff Bars and bottled water in each room in the event that an earthquake happens and we are trapped in that room. The kids are aware of where the supplies are and understand that they are for emergencies only.
The next morning, I searched Amazon and bought some supplies, including some fire-escape ladders for the upstairs bedrooms. They arrived today and Malachi asked what they are. I told him they are ladders that we can use to get out of the upstairs rooms in case there is a fire, thinking that I was doing a great job explaining this to him so that in the event of an emergency he would know exactly what to do :-)
He responded, as sincere as can be, with: "Right mom, so if there's a fire we go up in our room and eat Cliff Bars, right?" hmmmm......
Needless to say, we have some practicing to do when it comes to figuring out which measures match which emergencies....there seems to be some confusion :-)
We got a chuckle out of it though :-)
